I’m an Orton Gillingham trained reading teacher with a degree in education and over a decade of experience teaching kids from preschool through high school. I spent years in a mixed-age elementary classroom, helping kids learn how to read in ways that were inspiring and fun.

I’m also a homeschool mom who is right there in the trenches with you.

I tried teaching my son how to read using one of the most common homeschool reading programs. He cried. Daily.

Then, I applied what I knew from my teaching experience to create a system that made reading fun for him.

Today he reads consistently two grade levels ahead for his age. He regularly begs for extra reading time, and stays up to read under the covers with a flashlight.

Day 1 is all about getting started right when you're teaching your child to read. After day 1, you'll:

Know for sure if your child is ready to read (and what to do if they aren't)
Avoid the biggest mistake parents make that makes learning to read take longer for their kids
Follow a simple system for teaching reading that teaches new skills step by step and only takes a few minutes per day
Discover an easy way to be consistent with teaching reading (even if you're busy)
Teach your child their first letter sounds (without asking them to sit at a desk!)

On Day 2, you'll learn strategies to handle (and even prevent) the things that make learning to read tricky. After day 2, you'll:

Plan a short reading lesson for your child that makes reading fun
Deploy strategies that encourage your child to read the words on the page, not just guess the words
Prevent reading fights and frustrations with lessons that are designed to make reading fun
Correct mistakes in a way that helps kids learn to read faster
Teach your child to read their first words (with a fun activity they'll beg to do again and again!)

On Day 3, we'll bring it all together with strategies to set you and your child up for success with learning to read. After day 3, you'll:

Build your child's vocabulary and reading comprehension with strategies that fit into the lessons you're already teaching
Plan your next reading lessons to help your child build on the excitement of reading
Handle challenges with a teacher-recommended process when your child gets stuck
Choose the perfect books for your child that get them excited to read
Celebrate with your child as they read their first book!
